Nigeria’s Boko Haram group has abducted more than 1,000 children in the country since 2013, the United Nations announced on Friday. The extremist group has focused its operations in the northeast and came to prominence for its 2014 abduction of 276 schoolgirls from the town of Chibok The militants regularly took youngsters to spread fear and show power, the UN children’s agency UNICEF said on the eve of the fourth anniversary of the Chibok case. “Children in northeastern Nigeria continue to come under attack at a shocking scale,” stated Mohamed Malick Fall, UNICEF’s Nigeria head.
