Ali Akbar Velayati, the top adviser to Iran's supreme leader Ali Khamenei, on Thursday threatened to drive US troops out of eastern Syria, as the head of the Syrian regime, Bashar Assad, hinted of causing instability in the region if the US launches attacks on his forces. East of the Euphrates is “a very important area. We hope big steps will be taken in order to liberate this area and expel the occupying Americans,” Velayati told a news conference in Damascus.
