For months now, US congressional leaders have been pressing President Donald Trump to impose biting sanctions on Russia for its meddling in Ukraine, Syria, the 2016 US elections and, most recently, the UK. In frustration, legislators have sought to act unilaterally where they can. Their efforts now threaten critical US allies and partners -- India chief among them. Like its predecessor, the Trump administration has wisely sought to make India a central pillar in its overall Asia strategy.
